Yesterday we canceled GGAS trip because of expected rain and there was none. Today Blair and I bicycled to Aquatic Park where we saw a Hermit Thrush and lots of other lovely birds, then we went over the bike/ped bridge to the SF Bay Trail. On the way to Emeryville we saw the Surfbirds, Black Turnstones and Pelagic Cormorants and Western Sandpipers near Pt. Emery (as reported by another birder), and a group of Sanderlings at another nearby location. On our way back people were running their dogs and no birds were to be seen. High tide was around 11 this morning, and as I expected, there was a large group of Marbled Godwits and Willets and a few Whimbrels just opposite the Emery Cove yacht sales and parking lot on Powell St. After a sandwich at the SeaBreeze we went over to see the Burrowing Owls at Cesar Chavez. While we were looking at an owl, a couple with a dog off leash came along and the dog ran around the left side of the protective enclosure.
Heeding my yells, they retrieved the dog and were a bit miffed that I had made such a fuss. I managed to use a stick to secure the edge that had come loose. Is there someone keeping an eye on the enclosure to make sure that it is secure?
