    Dear Birders:

After moping the last couple of weeks about the lack of winter sparrows in my neighborhood, I was thrilled yesterday when EIGHT crowned sparrows crowded my feeders.? All where Golden-crowns except for a lone White-crowned Sparrow and one Song Sparrow for good measure. Best of all I am now surrounded by Golden-crown song and they are likely to sing through the rain.

But I'd forgotten that they favor the addition of greens to their diet so I've now netted my lettuces leaving a few plants for nibbling.

I'm still waiting for the Ruby-crowned Kinglets and later?
