Sorry I missed the field trip today. However, I did my weekly bike ride
(very slow) up Northgate Road to just past the junction of Mt Diablo, and
noted the following species (in no particular order). (I also heard
    songs/calls I did not recognize):

    Oak Titmouse
    White-breasted Nuthatch
    Western Tanager
    Western Kingbird
    Bullock's Oriole
    Dark-eyed Junco
    Western Bluebird
    Purple Finch
    Brown Towhee
    Acorn Woodpecker
    (various) Swallows
    Rufous-crowned Sparrow
    Yellow-rumped Warbler
    American Goldfinch
California Quail (I saw about 6-8 individuals a little beyond the junction,
    scurrying across the road)
    Wrentit (heard only)
Scrub Jay and other common sightings

    > This morning the Mt. Diablo Audubon Society had a field trip to Mitchell
    > Canyon. 29 birders attended. Highlights were a Prairie Falcon which flew
    > right over the parking lot before we started walking, a nearby Western
    > Tanager, a singing California Thrasher well seen in the sge above the Red
    > Rock Road/Globe Lily trail junction after crossing the creek, and a
    > wonderful Olive-sided Flycatcher in the same area. The flycatcher never
    > called, but eventually flashed its white rump tufts. We also had several
    > calling Ash-throated Flycatchers, busy Black-headed Grosbeaks and an
    > active
    > Bushtit nest just before the creek crossing. 49 species were seen or
    > heard.
