This morning the Mt. Diablo Audubon Society had a field trip to Mitchell
Canyon. 29 birders attended. Highlights were a Prairie Falcon which flew
right over the parking lot before we started walking, a nearby Western
Tanager, a singing California Thrasher well seen in the sge above the Red
Rock Road/Globe Lily trail junction after crossing the creek, and a
wonderful Olive-sided Flycatcher in the same area. The flycatcher never
called, but eventually flashed its white rump tufts. We also had several
calling Ash-throated Flycatchers, busy Black-headed Grosbeaks and an active
Bushtit nest just before the creek crossing. 49 species were seen or heard.
