[EBB Sightings] Common Murres Richmond Bay Trail

Hi everyone:

After I posted the sighting of two common murres in the Richmond Marina last week, I went back the following day to see if I could re-find them but to no avail.  I then walked to Meeker Slough where I met some people from the Richmond Field Station who were clearing the trail.  We chatted and I said I had just seen a common murre in the channel by the tumbled down pier -- they looked it up in Sibley then said that they had found three similar birds, dead, just on the other side of the pier at the shoreline.  We walked over and there were three dead murres.  In thinking about the original murres I had seen, sadly I suspect they were sick as they were so close in and not at all bothered by the presence of splashing children.

The dead birds have been reported to US Fish and Wildlife.
