While out in eastern CC Co. today, I found an light morph Ferruginous Hawk on Bruns Road, just over the county line. It circled for 5 minutes overhead, displaying a white tail, rusty red legs and underwings. It headed toward the Byron Airport. There were also 2 Burrowing Owls on the southeast side of Clifton Court Road, heading north off of the Byron Highway. They were in the field with the big palm tree, watching the many ground squirrels running to and fro. The Forebay had an adult and immature Black-Crowned Night Heron along the rip-rap bank, and an assortment of Buffleheads, Common Goldeneyes, Greater Scaup, Pied-billed Grebes and 1 Western Grebe. There were more birds in the distance, but I didn't have time to scope them. The only gulls were Ring-bills.

In Alameda County, 1 Burrowing Owl was under the windmills on Mountain House Road heading north from Altamont Pass Road, at mile marker .86, on the east side. Again, many ground squirrels were active. This has been a site where there have been many BO over the last 2 summers.

    Cheers,
