    >From 4-5, I birded Don Edwards NWR in Newark with the
tide out at sunset. All seems well... Marbled
godwits, willets, and lesser scaup under the bridge
and on the shoreline south of the pier; eared grebes,
northern shovelers, and ruddy ducks in the sloughs and
ponds along Marshlands Road. Just east of the
Learning Center, a single male CANVASBACK had its bill
tucked under wing, but not so far as to prevent ID.
First canvasback I've seen this season.

Two white-tailed kites hovering over La Riviere Marsh
near Paseo Padre and a third kite doing the same
across the road. Red-tailed hawk on an electrical
tower across from the entrance gate.

In the pond next to the "W", settling in for the
chilly night were many northern shovelers, avocets,
killdeer, green-winged teal and a few dowitchers. And
    coots!
