This morning (Sun, Oct 28), we had a Hairy Woodpecker hanging out at
San Pablo Bay Regional Shoreline in Pinole. I realize this isn't a
rare bird, but I've been birding this location for 12 years, and this
is the first Hairy I've recorded here, so it seemed worth mentioning.

Other birds of note included about 10 Cedar Waxwings, a Townsend's
Warbler, 2 Bewick's Wrens, a Surf Scoter (early for this location),
and a not-quite-red-shafted Northern Flicker (we've had hybrid
flickers here in the past; it looks like the percentage of yellow is
dwindling). The Greater Scaup have arrived in good numbers.

As a side note, the WHITE-THROATED SPARROW which I reported Oct 25
was seen again (very) briefly yesterday, Oct 27, from our back window.

    Good birding,
