Huckleberry Preserve had a handsome, male Townsend's
warbler feeding in a mixed sp. flock of birds near the
    entrance.

An apparent clod of dirt along the lower trail
transformed itself into my first, tiny, winter wren of
the season. It hopped in a sprightly, bright-eyed
manner not two feet away from me, from root to dusty
trail, at the foot of a hollowed and towering Bay
    tree.

Speaking of bright-eyed animals, I ran into another
nice couple of humans along the upper trail. The gal
asked me if I had seen the pileated? Uh, no.
Turned out, she saw one at the Huck entrance last
year, and has been looking in vain for another one
ever since. I told her that she wasn't the only one to
spot these big, noisy woodpeckers in the area, and
that she should join EBB to keep up with the latest,
local avian goings-on. Funny, it was a pileated
sighting that caused ME to join up!
