This morning the male Redhead Duck continued in the large natural pond,
along with about 20 Ring-necked Ducks and a handful of Buffleheads. On the
lawn between the cement pond and the Rose Garden, mixed in with the Canada
Geese were 11 Cackling Geese, apparently of the minima subspecies. They
were here Friday morning, but did not stay long due to an exercise group. I
don't know how long they were here today, I left the park about 9 AM.

Near the north entrance at the Contra Costa Canal, I did not see the
White-throated Sparrow, but Paul Schorr wrote to tell me he and his wife saw
it today. Also occasionally present at the same area are a Fox Sparrow and
Spotted Towhee. They mix in with the White- and Golden-crowned Sparrows.
Sometimes a Song Sparrow joins them, too. The north entrance is for foot
and bicycle traffic only, but may be reached by driving through the park to
the last baseball fields and parking in the adjacent lot.
