    Folks:

After "smewzing" in Soulsbyville this morning, 1/29/07, with a
well-know duck, I stopped by the Short-eared Owl area near the Byron
Airport around noon. This is a bad time of day for Short-eareds,
when there is no fog (or the microtus yield has been good). Lots of
neat grasslands along Holey and Byron Hot Springs roads, but I spent
most of my time on the airport entrance road (Falcon Road?). There
are cattails here and at least 3 Northern Harriers were foraging back
and forth. I thought I would wait to see if they would disturb an
owl, but that did not happen. But while watching this show, a
1st-winter SWAINSON'S HAWK flew over, heading north. This would seem
to be an early migrant (unless one of the delta birds).
