[EBB Sightings] Lake Merritt birding Saturday 11.12.05

At Lake Merritt, I saw an interesting bird not in my bird books. It looked
like a cross between a Goldeneye and a Merganser. May be the same bird that
was reported last year. It was with the Goldeneye=B9s near the islands. It h=
as
an all dark, big round head, a narrow black bill, a very white front with
two black bars and grey sides. I tried to photograph it but was
unsuccessful.

Also saw many Barrow=B9s Goldeneye, Buffleheads, Ruddy Ducks, Scaup and coot=
s.
3 GB Heron and all the other usual suspects. A surprise was an overflight by
an Osprey.
