The adult Great-tailed Grackles I first reported at Shadow Cliffs,
an East Bay Regional Park on Stanley Blvd., between Livermore
and Pleasanton, on April 11 and 12, 2005, apparently nested and
fledged at least 4 young, which I saw there August 12-13, 2005,
and again this Saturday, September 3. They were at the fishing
pier, just south of the boat rental dock, on the pier railings, and in
the cattails at the base of the pier. According to one of the park
rangers and the boat rental manager, the Grackles have been
present regularly for some time, and are often seen when the
beach is crowded with people. They have also been seen in the
small pond next to the levee just south of the water slides.
