    Looking out across the reedy ponds beside the far parking lot at 
    Arrowhead Marsh yesterday, I saw a chunky dark-blue bird alight on a 
    reed toward the far side and sway for a while. It dropped to the ground 
    and out of sight, but later I saw what may have been the same bird 
    perched on the wire fence between the ponds and the paved path that runs 
    along that side of the marshy stretch.
    
    It was too far away to be sure of details or precise scale, but I think 
    it was smaller than a Steller's Jay. Head (round), back, and breast a 
    clear late-twilight-to-midnight blue, much darker or perhaps black on 
    the wings.
    
    Indigo Bunting may come closest... but I think the wings were darker 
    than the pic in Sibley - and that'd be a wild rarity around here.
