    Hi, all.
This comes a few days late, but I wasn't sure how
    noteworthy my sighting was.
Late Friday afternoon I spotted at least one
dark-eyed junco slate-colored variant (with white wing
bars) behind the Garden Center in Lakeside Park in
Oakland. It was in the same area some of us saw the
yellow-breasted chat early this summer--on the ground
and in the trees right by the fenced parking area
right behind the building--and atop the restroom
    building nearby.
Across the drive from the restrooms a couple of
Anna's humminbirds were busy foraging in the trees.
At the lake I spotted the usual double-crested
    cormorants, mallards, coots, pied-billed grebes,
black-crowned night herons, snowy egrets, bushtits, a
black-ringed (I think) gull or two, a juvenile gull
I'm still trying to identify, a few brown pelicans and
2 belted kingfishers loudly chasing each other back
and forth across the islands. And, of course the
    Canada geese were everywhere.
    Take care,
    Alan Howe
