Perhaps one has moved in - Arlyn Christopherson and I saw one there on
September 11.

The trail has a closed sign on it - but is otherwise unobstructed all
the way to the field where the construction is taking place, and it
appears to be getting fairly continuous use despite the sign. It'd be
awkward to try to circle the lake, but end-to-end and back along that
trail is safe, pleasant, and not lonely.

The Friends of Sausal Creek seed hike leader recommends parking in the
free garage at the Chabot Space and Science Center rather than in the
parking lot on the same side of the road and a quarter-mile or so nearer
Oakland. I imagine it might be worth the hike for the Sequoia areas as well.
