Dear Birders:
I just read Rusty Schaf's email and have been also observing the fierce
territorial skirmishes (at least that's what I think they are) among
the Wilson's Warblers at Jewel Laken, watching them zip through the
trees at sonic speeds. The last two mornings I have heard and seen a
male Wilson's in the young oak trees across the street from my house
near the top of the Berkeley Hills. Maybe he's a spillover from the
turf wars, forsaking his preferred riparian corridor for the relative
serenity of my neighborhood.
In the last couple of days, I've heard a few bursts of Ruby-crowned
Kinglet song and some minor notes from the still-lingering
Golden-crowns. I'm hoping to hear a Olive-sided Flycatcher soon from
high up in one of the local blue-gums, but sadly they've become hard to
come by in the last several years.
