Pine Siskins are hanging around in our backyard here in the Oakland hills
too. We live above Skyline Blvd. on Wilton Drive (elevation approx. 1,480 feet)
and have had siskins at our feeders for weeks. Since we moved here in 2003,
we have been tracking our backyard birds and have recorded siskins every winter
from 2004 to the present. What seems to attract the birds are two redwood
trees behind our house on the fire trail in Redwood Regional Park as the cones
are ripe and releasing their seeds at this time of the year. We have two
hanging thistle feeders in our backyard below the redwoods and eight to ten siskins
will crowd in on the sock feeder. We have not looked for siskins in the
    park.

The redwood trees and, hopefully, the siskin flock can be viewed from the
fire trail accessible from Wilton Drive at Burton Drive. They can also be seen
    from Wilton.
