Saw a Cedar Waxwing this afternoon while trying to photograph Yellow-rumped
and Townsend's warblers. Saw a Northern Flicker for the first time in our
yard. Also saw the usual suspects working on the holly berries: Hermit
Thrush and Robins. There were 10 robins of varying ages and genders. A few
mornings ago I was awakened by what seemed to be a saw whet owl. Don't know
if this was wishfull thinking on my part. I have been trying to learn their
calls. Has anyone seen or heard Saw Whets in Montclair? We have riparian
habitat behind our house with redwoods, bay, oak, alder and maple trees
(Mountaingate near Castle, back yard is Larry Ln).
