Hi all,
There is a modest population of Mute Swans breeding on
the Concord Naval Weapons Station. Don't have notes
here but they have probably been breeding about 5
years now. We don't have access in there anymore on
the CBC but the group numbers at least 20 birds.
While they certainly are pretty, there is concern.
These swans are said to be very aggressive towards
other nesting waterfowl. Some states on the east
coast, where they have become particularly well
established,have implemented control programs. This
apparently most often involves egg addling.
