This morning Jean Lucken and I walked around Lafayette Reservoir,
birding, but keeping track of the time for my 2-hr. parking meter.
About 50 ft. east of restroom #5, we stopped to look for a singing
grosbeak. Never found it, but we saw an empid. that might have been a
Gray or Dusky Flycatcher. It was in dead twigs at the top of a tree, on
the trail, reservoir side. The bird was very pale gray, with only the
hint of a vest. No eye ring. Short beak. Voice: a soft, mournful
whistle (reminiscent of, but not as whiny as a Lesser Goldfinch). Not
"big-headed" enough for Hammonds. The bird sallied out a couple of
times, and returned to the same perch. But after some interaction with
a selas. hummer, it left and, eventually, so did we. The time was about
    10:25 am.

I'd really like to hear from anyone else who sees the bird and can
    provide an authoritative identification.
