What an incredible sight that Denise reported several days ago!
I did not realize these migrants could come in such large mixed flocks.
A small migrant flock of Western Tanagers arrived at my garden in El
Sobrante (north of Berkeley) on Saturday afternoon (May 5th) and stayed
through Monday evening (May 7th). At any one time 8-10 were combing through
the bottle bushes, peach trees, loquats, and ceonothus. I saw a group of
probably around 20 flying around for a brief time.
A lone Barn Swallow flew through although a few have been around the nearby
shopping center for several days (which now covers over a swampy seasonal
pond)
Enjoy your birding!

Subject: [EBB Sightings] A few Moraga migrants
Hello E. B. Birders,
This morning I had migrant wave go through the open
space below my apartment (behind and above the Rheem
Theatre). Between 8:05 and 8:30 am I saw or heard the
following birds:
Western Tanager
Bullock's Oriole
Nashville Warbler
Orange-crowned Warbler
Black-headed Grosbeak
Lazuli Bunting
One swallow flock directly below me had:
Northern Rough-winged Swallow
Barn Swallow
Tree Swallow
Violet Green-swallow
Cliff Swallow
By 8:30 am it was all over, not one of the migrants
was seen or heard.? Now I can leave my apartment and
go birding, as I had planned!
All the Best Birding,
Denise Wight
Moraga, CA
