    I've always thought the birds in question were emus, though I'm no  
    expert on large flightless birds (or small, flying ones for that  
    matter).  Regardless of what they are, they have been there for quite  
    some time, yet always catch my attention.
    
    I did think I saw an emu near the spot where the Townsend's Solitaire  
    was in Sunol, but the distant, fleeting view was probably just a wild  
    turkey walking on a mound. . . .
