This morning at 8 a.m., the Eurasian Wigeon was near the pond 200 yds E of the NE corner of the parking lot at theLas Positas Golf Course in Livermore, with about 100 American Wigeons. From Hwy 580, exit at Airway Blvd, turn right on Clubhouse Road.
At 9:30 a.m., Adele and I saw an Eurasian Collared-Dove at Murrieta's well in Livermore. From Hwy 580, exit at S. Vasco Rd, go 2 mi to Tesla, then right 1 mi to Mines Rd, then left 0.25 mi to the entrance rd to Murrieta's Well. Drive or walk in, and listen for the distinctive coo-coo.....coo. Early a.m. is best.
At 11 a.m., Adele and I saw at least 4 Mountain Bluebirds at m.p. 7.52 on Patterson Pass Road E of Livermore, where they were reported yesterday. From Hwy 580, exit at S. Vasco, go S about 1 mi to Patterson Pass Rd, go left.Look for Horned Larks at m.p. 5.9, and many Shrikes, Kestrels and Red-tailed
Hawks.
Tuesday at 10 a.m., Adele and I saw one Short-eared Owl on Byron Hot Springs Rd, which is about 1 mi W of the Tracy-Byron Highway on Holey Road (very hard to see on a big S-curve), in Contra Costa County. The owls were reported by Kathy Robertson on Jan 15 and by Clark Stanton on Jan 20.
Wednesday at 10:30 a.m., I saw the male Blue-winged Teal in Saddleback Pond, at the intersection of Dalton andAmes Roads N of Livermore. From Hwy 580, exit on North Vasco, go N about 2 mi to Dalton, go W about 1 mi to Broadmoor, turn left and park as near Dalton as possible. Walk across Dalton, and look in the pond there, andin the N end of the pond from Ames.
