This morning at 8 a.m., the male Eurasian Wigeon was near the pond 200 yds E of the
NE corner of the parking lot at the Las Positas Golf Course in Livermore, with about 100
American Wigeons. From Hwy 580, exit at Airway Blvd, turn right on Clubhouse Road.
I could see the Eurasian Wigeon from my car, while on Clubhouse Road.
At 9:30 a.m., Adele and I saw an Eurasian Collared-Dove at Murrieta's well in
Livermore. From Hwy 580, exit at S. Vasco Rd, go 2 mi to Tesla, then right 1 mi
to Mines Rd, then left 0.25 mi to the entrance rd to Murrieta's Well. Drive or
walk in, and listen for the distinctive coo-coo.....coo. Early a.m. is best.
At 11 a.m., Adele and I saw at least 4 Mountain Bluebirds at m.p. 7.52 on
Patterson Pass Road E of Livermore, where they were reported yesterday. From
Hwy 580, exit at S. Vasco, go S about 1 mi to Patterson Pass Rd, go left.
Look for Horned Larks at m.p. 5.9, and many Shrikes, Kestrels and Red-tailed
Hawks.
Tuesday at 10 a.m., Adele and I saw one Short-eared Owl on Byron Hot Springs Rd,
which is about 1 mi W of the Tracy-Byron Highway on Holey Road (very hard to see
on a big S-curve), in Contra Costa County. The owls were reported by Kathy
Robertson on Jan 15 and by Clark Stanton on Jan 20.
Wednesday at 10:30 a.m., I saw the male Blue-winged Teal in Saddleback Pond, at
the intersection of Dalton and Ames Roads N of Livermore. From Hwy 580, exit on
North Vasco, go N about 2 mi to Dalton, go W about 1 mi to Broadmoor, turn left
and park as near Dalton as possible. Walk across Dalton, and look in the pond
there, and ,in the N end of the pond , from Ames. This bird was reported by Hugh
Harvey and Eugenia Larson on January 23.
If anyone sees something of interest in the Livermore area, that's not significant
enougf for EBB, please feel free to email me directly.
Good Birding,
Art Edwards
