This morning I hiked at Del Valle along the lake from
the picnic area to the bridge. The lake is
surprisingly full for this time of year. Birds of
note:
a Golden Eagle over the bridge
The underside of the bridge features small square
cutouts (for drainage?). There are 8 at each of the 4
bridge supports. White Throated Swifts appear to be
nesting inside these holes. At least, there were
observed flying in and out of them.
I believe I spotted a Vaux's swift soaring with the
white-throateds. It was smaller, paler, and lacked
the white throat and sides.
Also at the south end of the lake, amongst the reeds,
were 3 female Wood Ducks.
I stopped at Murrieta's Well, but didn't see or hear
any birds.
