Well maybe...
NOT having our binoculars on a 'quick walk' along Lime Ridge Open Space,
Concord the other evening, (never leave binoculars behind!), we saw from
the trail what looked like a Says Phoebe to me at first; but further study
it seemed to be more 'grayish' then I was thinking 'flycatcher', but it
still looked strange - not as large and shape of head different (& def. NOT
black phoebe).
After checking a website" http://www.birdphotography.com, Dennis thinks it
may be an Eastern Phoebe, going by the 'whitish throat' this had, which I
really couldn't confirm since no binocs, bad lighting & constant moving of
the bird of concern.
We don't have time to return until next Monday at the soonest , but if
someone in the area has the time and would care to see if they can site it,
here are the basic directions:
This is the section of Lime Ridge "off Treat" at the end of "Navarrone",
going towards Ygnacio Blvd.(i.e. if you're coming up Treat Blvd from 680,
it's the first right turn after San Miguel (after you pass the Canal) at the
light, if that makes any sense. (Across the street from the main parking
lot. You drive/ride to the end of Navarrone, and take the trail leading to
Ygnacio Blvd ( or the underpass before it), but you'll pass two ponds and
it's about 1/2 mi from the trailhead across from the second Pond; it was out
in the field between the pond and the trail. Also, there's a resident coyote
usually around this pond. We say it about 6PM on Wed., Aug. 9th.
Sorry hope it's not a wild goose chase; or contact me after Aug. 13th, maybe
we can meet out there...
good birding
