      Hi E.B. Birders,

This morning at Mitchell Canyon, Mount Diablo State Park, a group of seven of us watched an adult Cooper's Hawk actively building a new nest. The bird was silent, and transporting sticks to the thin layer of the nest from nearby trees, seemingly unconcerned with our presence. Great views, but we never saw a mate. This was on the main dirt road out of the parking lot, in the wooded area, just before the dirt road turns to the left (south). According to The Birds of North America online, they do not double brood.

We also saw Lawrence Goldfinch in three areas; one male just beyond the Cooper's Hawk nest, another male on the side trail up to Red Rock Road, and the highlight, an adult male with two, still faintly streaky breasted young following behind him, along the creek just south of White Canyon Road.

      All the Best Birding,
