Friends: Friday afternoon, 2/17/06 there were two male and four female =
Common Mergansers, plus two male and at least two female Buffleheads at =
Jewel Lake in the Tilden Nature Area, Tilden Regional Park, Berkeley. =
Nearby, along the boardwalk to the lake, were Allen's Hummingbird (the =
pink-flowering currant is in bloom) and Northern Flicker and Downy =
Woodpecker.
A recent article in The Four Seasons by Prof. William Graves of Iowa =
State has a photo of Anna's Hummingbird visiting (pollinating?) the rare =
Western Leatherwood. Soon the leatherwood will be blooming. Keep an eye =
out for hummingbirds visiting it!
