On my morning walk around Lake Merritt (Oakland) and through Lakeside Park,
I found a female BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER foraging in the company of a
chickadee flock. The flock was working the Live Oak trees next to Children's
Fairyland at the first paved path that leaves the parking area, about 100
feet past the entrance kiosk on the right.

The ROSS'S GOOSE spent the morning lounging on the lawn with the Canada
Geese in front of the Lakeview library between Grand and Lakeshore. A
RED-BREASTED SAPSUCKER continues near the croquet court. A RING-NECKED DUCK
is still keeping company with the scaups at the duck feeding area. It looks
to me like the scaup numbers are way down from a couple months ago. It also
looks like the sex ratio is heavily skewed toward males. I seem to recall
Rusty Scalf making a similar observation last year.

Cormorant nesting is in full swing and it looks like the Black-crowned Nigh
Herons are on territory. It's hard to tell since they don't sing much.
