Tried to take a walk around Lake Merritt but instead spent my time admiring
a large flock of warblers at the corner of Perkins and Grand. Mostly H-Y
Yellow-rumped Warblers but I also found a PALM WARBLER in the bunch. It was
nondescript brown, showing a strong pale supercilium that extended well
behind the eye. It showed bright yellow undertail coverts, contrasting with
a pale belly, black at the base of the undertail, and large white undertail
spots. There were also a couple TOWSEND'S WARBLERS in the flock. All of the
warblers, including the Palm, were actively gleaning in the mid- and
upper-story of the trees with the black and white bark (alders?).

I spent some time yesterday studying the same flock. It seemed bigger then
and included ORANGE-CROWNED and NASHVILLE WARBLERS, a WARBLING VIREO, and a
    Myrtle race Yellow-rumped Warbler.

Down at the duck feeding area, a few RUDDY DUCKS and an EARED GREBE have
    returned for the winter.
