After a cool, overcast and quiet morning, our mixed flock of beginner and
veteran birders were rewarded with sunny skies and nice sightings of
warblers and hermit thrushes at Jewel Lake. An unusually bold hermit thrush
afforded most of the group close looks.

We had three intrepid children along; they were first to spot the hummers.
Thanks to Jessica of East Bay Regional Parks for a fun walk that engaged
    children and adults alike.

Species seen and heard included the following list (participants please add
    or edit if necessary):

    TURKEY VULTURE
    NORTHERN FLICKER
    SPOTTED TOWHEE
    CALIFORNIA TOWHEE
    ANNA'S HUMMINGBIRD
    RED-TAILED HAWK
    BLACK PHOEBE
    HERMIT THRUSH
    WARBLER (YELLOW OR TOWNSEND'S)
    RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET
    ROBIN
COOPER'S HAWK OR HARRIER - barred tail produced some debate
