Two days ago a small bird hit the large picture window of my Montclair
home and when I went out to investigate, my first impression was that it
was a Townsend's warbler. But after righting the bird from its back and
taking a closer look with my Sibley in hand, it surely looked like a
hermit warbler. That was a lifer for me. After a short recovery period
the bird flew off and I haven't seen it since, however we have been
having some major tree trimming taking place in our yard so that tends
to keep the more elusive birds away. Has anyone had any other sightings
of this species? I have lived in this area for over 30 years and have
never seen one here.
