There was probably a female nearby. Male osprey will
circle and loop and show off their fish catch when
they're trying to impress females by demonstrating
their ability to feed her and any potential offspring
they might have. Kind of like human males wearing
very expensive watches and driving expensive sports
cars to demonstrate reproductive fitness, as measured
by access to economic resources. I saw an osprey
doing that in Inverness in the spring, just circling
and looping and calling loudly to a nearby female with
his fish.
