    While returning to campus after getting my caffine
    fix, I spotted a Black-crowned Night Heron on the west
    edge of the UC Berkeley campus in downtown Berkeley. 
    It was perched on a fence in the redwoods at the
    corner of Center and Oxford, where Strawberry Creek
    dives underground.  I'm sure these guys are dependably
    seen in many spots around the bay area, but I was
    surprised to see one here.
    
    I just got back into town yesterday after a couple of
    weeks on the east coast and was happy to see at least
    half a dozen Black-headed grosbeaks enjoying our
    feeders in Richmond View.  It seemed a bit incongruous
    to see the grosbeaks, which i think of as summer
    birds, along side the pine siskins, which I think of
    as winter visitors.
