Not that nay of this is UNUSUAL, just a monitoring report, if you will:
1.First time we've seen barn swallows at lower LimeRidge OS - yesterday 3/29
- this year (we're close to the Canal)
2. Also the usual ring-neck pheasants (2) in "flight"
(conserv. est. at least (6) individuals being heard regularly in different
locations within a half mile between visitor center and Via Montanas)
3.One of the kites (is "black-shouldered" current?)
4. (I'm pretty sure it was )a Peregrine - kinda grayish tho' - no not a
Merlin (hmm?) - it was a 6pm flyover, real fast - it was being mobbed by
the Redwings (BB) establishing their territories in the area...
note: I often see and hear peregrines flying high over Concord during the
day, esp. at Markham Nature Park (on clear days)! (you are welcomed to
verify that!)
6.Also 'back' was a flock of House finches - seem to be a 'seasonal'
appearance in this area (seed and cover availability I assume).
7. Still seeing White crowns /Zonotrichia sp. (i'm too lazy to get my book!)
thanks!
Sharyn (& Dennis)
