During a long dog walk at Pt. Pinole Regional Shoreline yesterday, we were
treated to an unusual sight: nine Black oystercatchers perched on wooden
pilings that are remains of the "old wharf" out at the end of Pt. Pinole
Road. They seemed very accustomed to humans and were not bothered by people
walking along the adjacent fishing pier.

I had never seen that many oystercatchers in one place before.

Meanwhile, looking outside my kitchen window I see that the male American
goldfinches are starting to molt into breeding plumage. Spring is on the
    way!
