    I was going to ask the same question, but you beat me to the punch.  
    According to my field guides, Pileated Woodpeckers are resident throughout their 
    range.  I, personally, have seen them in Joaquin Miller Park in mid-June and 
    mid-October.  I think you're correct that, because the East Bay population is so 
    small, they are seldom seen.
    
    I know there have been several sightings reported to EBB over the last few 
    years.  What months have others seen them?
