Mid-day at Garin RP in Hayward, a RED-BREASTED SAPSUCKER was on a tree near the dock at Jordan Pond. A small flock of NORTHERN ROUGH-WINGED SWALLOWS flew over the pond. A second red-breasted sapsucker was in a tree next to the trail that leads up to the kite field. Two bright WESTERN BLUEBIRDS, male and female, were in the cattle pasture beyond the fence above the kite field. A mated pair of AMERICAN KESTRELS was perched side-by-side in a snag overlooking the steep beginning of the High Ridge Loop Trail. I didn't find the Hammond's flycatcher, which, if it's the same bird, we originally spotted on an Ohlone Audubon field trip on December 17, 2009.
