White-Throated Swifts, Golden Eagles, Etc.: Calaveras Rd., Sunol Region, Alameda Co., CA

    *

Impressive numbers of WHITE-THROATED SWIFT(S) are often present approximately two miles
east of I-680 on Calaveras Road -- a nice country-like road that offers ingress to Sunol Regional Park.

I also continue to see different age classes of GOLDEN EAGLE on the eastern peaks that are visible from the road (also approximately two miles east of I-68)

COOPER's HAWK are another occasional visitor that I see in this area.

Singing Bewick's Wren are not unexpected by now and many individuals in this area are now vocalizing different versions in their repertoire (that can be as many as 22 songs, according to Dr. Donald Kroodsma, Emeritus Professor, Univ. of Mass.)

In the early morning, I often hear volleying GREAT-HORNED OWL(s) in this area.

Happy New Year and Good 2010 Birding To All,
