On Tuesday 12/15 the eastern Contra Costa County bird count took place. It looks like we will end up with 143 species, which may be our highest total ever in the 10 years of the count. A Wilson's Warbler found on Holland tract was the first for the count. It was well photographed. Birds seen only one other time in the 10 years were Eurasian Wigeon, Wild Turkey, and Phainopepla. A Black-throated Warbler had been only twice before. Mountain Bluebird and Yellow-headed Blackbirds only 3 times. Common Loon at Clifton Ct. forebay was unusual. 3 different locations of Lewis' Woodpecker were nice to see. It was a very nice day and a very good count.
