    Dear Birders:

I hear them 'chiterring' in the tops of trees, but yesterday, for the first time, a small group of Pygmy Nuthatches descended on my sunflower chip feeders, returning for repeat visits. The Townsend's Warbler has added chips to his midwinter diet. The feeder is a crowded place with chickadees, titmice, Lesser Goldfinches in a variety of colors and the regular, but usually solitary, Red-breasted Nuthatch vying for space.

I live two blocks north of Lawrence Hall of Science in the Berkeley Hills.
