I just completed my short jog around Heather Farms pond in Walnut Creek and
made a few noteworthy observations (in addition to the blackbirds, Mallards,
    etc.):

    -Pied-billed Grebe (in winter plumage)
    -Bufflehead (male)
    -Black-crowned Night Heron (juvenile)
    -Black Phoebe
    -White-crowned sparrows (4 individuals)

The usual mobs of Canada Geese were making their usual racket; and finally,
I noted a large flock of crows mobbing an unfortunate Red-tailed Hawk at
high altitude. I counted at least 43 crows furiously harassing this poor
    raptor!
