FYI, Red-breasted Sapsucker is a regular winter visitor to Lakeside Park
(Lake Merritt), and my backyard near the Grand Lake Theater (Rose Garden
neighborhood). At Lakeside Park, check that gray pine-looking thing in front
of the Garden Center and the big trees between the bocce ball courts and the
    central fountain.

    Hi, all.
I was quite surprised to see a red-breasted sapsucker bounding around the
big walnut tree in our back yard this morning--a new yard bird for me. A bit
later a downy was busily pursuing lunch in the same tree.
There's a fig tree in a neighbor's yard that's been attracting robins in
sizeable numbers and a few days ago a flock of cedar waxwings came through,
swarming the fig and nearby berries.
A Bewick's wren seems to be becoming a more regular visitor to the yard
and there are the usual sparrows, yellow-rumps and hoard of bushtits most
    mornings.
    Cheers,
