This afternoon (Fri, Oct 16), at San Pablo Bay Regional Shoreline in
Pinole, a CLAY-COLORED SPARROW was hanging out with the local sparrow flock.

We've also seen 2 different White-tailed Kites at the park this week
-- an immature 2 days ago and an adult today.

Directions to San Pablo Bay RS: Exit I-80 at Appian Way in Pinole
and head north toward the Bay. At the bottom of the hill, turn left
on San Pablo Ave. At the 2nd light, turn right on Pinole Shores
Drive. At the end of Pinole Shores Drive is a small parking lot for
the Shoreline. From the parking lot, take the paved trail to the
right (east) past the houses and down a hill.

The sparrows (White-crowned, Golden-crowned, Song, and CA Towhees)
have been hanging out near the bottom of this hill, since one of the
residents cleared all the brush on his hillside, apparently stirring
up a lot of grass seeds.

The kites most often hover around the next hill along the trail.

    Good birding,
    --
