    Dear Friends:

I just returned from a walk to the end of Jewel Lake to enjoy the gratifying sight and sound of water cascading over the dam and racing down the spillway. Only resident mallards so far on the open water.

On the way home, I stopped briefly at Lake Anza and in high trees around the lawn adjacent to the parking lot, I heard a thrilling, repeated call and recognized it as the call of the Townsend's Solitaire. Coming home, I played my "Birds of Lake Tahoe" tape and confirmed that my recollection was probably correct.

Without the time to track down the bird, I am reluctant to post it as a "sighting." But with my sound recognition still reasonably acute, I hope others with more time and better eyes can confirm this uncommon visitor.
