    Dear Birders:
    
    I neglected to say that the conifers on the slope were planted some years ago by the Forestry Dept. at UC.  They are species found in the Pacific Northwest.
    
    I agree that if this is a Townsend's fledgling it does seem early, but a friend who does rescue work at the Lindsay Museum, says that a junco fledgling was brought in about 6 weeks ago and everyone remarked that this was perhaps the earliest ever.  Can we expect earlier and earlier fledglings as a effect of global warming?
