I have always seen/heard Pygmy Nuthatches here in the Oakland Hills where I
live (since 1991). A few days ago one was collecting redwood bark fibers in
my yard, indicating nesting here. According to Arnold Small in "California
Birds: Their Status and Distribution" there has been a population of Pygmy
Nuthatches in the Oakland Hills (ALA/CC counties) since about 1980.
