On Bay Farm Island in Alameda a large group of around 100 or more Black-bellied Plovers usually awaits the low tide on the rocky shoreline of San Leandro Channel. 

Park at the corner of Augenbach and SeaView Parkway, then follow the park path north 50 feet to the shoreline and then walk west a short distance to view them.  

They are in all stages of breeding plumage.  This one seems ready for the breeding season:
