I found what I'm fairly certain is a subadult male Lucifer Hummingbird today on a walk in Redwood Regional Park, Oakland. It was alongside the Stream Trail down from Skyline Gate just above Girl's Camp.
I picked up on the bird when it was emitting a deep pitched humming sound. There was quite a bit of buff color on the bird, long dark wings, long black, downcurved bill. There was the beginnings of some color on the base of its throat but I couldn't tell which because the bird was in the shade.
I checked my Sibley and Natl. Geo when I got home and Lucifer looked right. Also the humming sound I heard most agrees with Lucifer on my recordings. I seem to remember an occasional mention of a Lucifer sighting in the bay area but if I'm wrong and they are impossibly rare here I'll withdraw the claim. Unfortunately I didn't have my camera with me so there aren't any pictures.
